Do You Have to Get a Purity Ring at a Ceremony?

By admin On December 1, 2013 Under Purity Rings

Purity rings are becoming more and more popular among tween and teen girls who commit themselves to remaining abstinent until marriage. Sometimes, the choice to wear a purity ring is encouraged by young people’s churches, religious leaders or youth groups. In some parts of the country, father/daughter dances where dads give their girls purity rings at a formal dance are common. Youth groups also hold special ceremonies where their members receive purity rings. An article in Gainesville Sun described one such local event where eight girls put on their purity rings while wearing dresses that were all white.

With so many stories in the media about purity ring events being held across the country, some teens and tweens wonder if they have to go through a ceremony or special event to wear a purity ring. The answer is that any girl can choose to wear a purity ring, regardless of whether an event is held to mark the occasion. Girls can save up their own money to buy a purity ring, ask for one for a birthday or holiday or request from her parents.

The decision to wear a purity ring is a personal one for a girl, and the way that she begins to wear it can be personal and private as well. While marking the occasion with a special event can be very meaningful for a young girl and her family, it is by no means necessary or a requirement for wearing a purity ring.
